"Kinloch Anderson"
Late 80s-mid-90s wool cashmere concealed-front overcoat

Founded in Scotland in 1868, Kinloch Anderson has preserved traditional dressmaking culture—such as tartans and kilts—up to the present day. From the house comes a splendid piece with beautiful tailoring.

Featuring a substantial long silhouette and a neat concealed placket construction, this piece captures a classic look with roots in Britain, rendered through the meticulous sewing craftsmanship that was characteristic of Japanese manufacturing of the time.

The outer fabric is a blend of 60% wool, 30% cashmere, and 10% nylon. The sure warmth of wool is complemented by the soft, distinctive feel of cashmere, while the delicate brushed surface gently receives the light, lending the dark charcoal tone—close to black—with depth and character.

The straight silhouette, which is not drastically narrowed from shoulder to hem, delivers a dignified long length reaching around the calf—yet without creating an overly imposing presence. With ease built into the body, a jacket or thick knit sits naturally, and because the front is finished with a concealed placket where the buttons are hidden inside, the clean impression highlights the quality of the cloth and the vertical lines.

Inside, it is lined throughout with a total black-to-dark gray color scheme. Smooth polyester lining helps reduce snagging when putting on or taking off, and the understated construction—including unembossed black four-hole buttons that are not visible from the outside—keeps the focus on the inherent refinement of an overcoat that is not swayed by trends.

In addition to a quality tag carrying the old JIS-style care-label symbols and the Japan Federation of Clothing Manufacturers’ Associations notation, there is also a brand-woven name and management markings that remain from the period. For these reasons, it is likely to have been produced from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s. The coexistence of a solid Japanese-made background and a classic name that reflects Scottish tradition is, in itself, an added value that goes beyond a mere basic coat.

This is especially recommended for those who want to enjoy the texture of the materials and the excellence of the tailoring in a quiet, understated way. It also suits those who wish to express presence through silhouette rather than relying on decoration. From a refined layer over a suit, to everyday styling with a loose-gauge knit and wide slacks, you can enjoy its classic appeal—one that remains unfaded even after many years.

By all means, take this opportunity.
