Late 90's sculptural ruffle maxi dress
From COMME des GARÇONS, founded by Rei Kawakubo and continuously redefining the value of beauty in clothing, we present a piece in which sculptural artistry truly takes center stage.
Its deep ink-navy tone—so rich it also reads as black—and the ruffles that run vertically from the chest create an avant-garde presence within an otherwise calm, composed silhouette.
The outer fabric is made with polyester. The soft drape of the material forms an elegant long silhouette that flows from the upper body to the hem, while the delicate sheer effect that appears in parts of the sleeves and bodice adds light, dimensional depth to the rich, monochromatic one-tone color.
At the center of the front, ruffles in the same tonal family are arranged in three dimensions from the chest to the waist, and the shadows created by their overlapping form a sculptural expression.
