From CELINE, founded in Paris in 1945, which has elevated practicality-rooted elegance into refined minimalism, we are pleased to present a standout piece that quietly redefines its formal codes.
This piece translates the silk-inspired motif used in tuxedo jackets into the everyday silhouette of a knee-length long coat.
Against the matte black body, the satin fabric with a dull sheen extends from the lapels to the front placket, creating depth through textural variation despite an all-black appearance, and without resorting to excessive ornamentation, it exudes a formal tension that is highly appealing.
The peak lapel is sharp yet generously wide, and the line flowing from the shoulder to the chest emphasizes verticality; therefore, despite its length, it does not look heavy, with the negative space surrounding the body coexisting with a poised silhouette.
The main body is composed primarily of acetate and rayon with a small amount of polyurethane, and unlike the heaviness of a typical wool coat, it features a supple drape and light sway; as you walk, the hem and the body move naturally, allowing you to sense Céline's quiet strength and contemporary openness typical of the Phoebe Philo era.
The contrasting fabric portions use a material containing polyester and silk, and the luster on the lapels and front placket catches the light to create a subtle contrast within the black. This satin panel is not merely decorative; it plays a role in transferring the tuxedo's historical formality to the coat, enabling everyday wear to carry the formal dresswear tension, giving this piece its unique added value.
As for the era, in addition to the accent-marked Céline logo on the inner tag, the Japanese quality label lists LVJ Group Co., Ltd. and CÉLINE JAPAN, and since the care label predates the current JIS standard, this piece is credibly regarded as from the Phoebe Philo era around 2008–2014.
The front presents an exceptionally clean appearance, and the chest pocket and hip pockets are arranged with subdued emphasis, so the overall impression remains refined; only the satin lapel's gloss quietly changes its expression. The lining is also a smooth black, and the sleeve movement and interior appearance are beautifully finished when worn, further evidencing its luxury-wear craftsmanship.
In terms of mood, this is a standout piece I particularly recommend for those who value how the fabric drapes, how it catches light, and how naturally formal context can be brought into daily life, rather than relying on ornate logos or decorations. It is not only for dressing up; when you want to add a touch of tension to everyday attire, wearing it quietly tightens the overall mood of the outfit.
In terms of styling, pairing with drapey wide trousers and a crisp shirt modernizes the tuxedo's backbone, creating a poised mood that is gender-inclusive. Additionally, wearing it over a simple tee or not-too-skinny slacks allows the formal elements to blend naturally into daily wear, making this piece a direct embodiment of the pared-down luxury CELINE excels at.
We invite you to take this opportunity.
