Founded in 1991 and bearing the name 1707, derived from the Battle of Almansa, this double monk shoe is from Berwick 1707, which brings Spanish shoemaking traditions into the modern era, offering classic construction beauty and depth of color.

Made with an aniline-finish leather that shifts in appearance from chestnut to light brown, with subtle variations in tone that add rich depth to your step—an exceptional piece.

At the toe, it features U-tip moccasin stitching, adding soft roundness and a three-dimensional feel to the front of the foot. On the upper, two monk straps are placed, providing a neat, composed tension distinct from lace-up shoes. And the antique-style square buckles lend a classic sense of presence.

These two buckles are not only decorative; they also provide a practical structure to adjust the fit at the instep, giving your foot a secure hold. The smooth leather texture and fine stitching harmonize beautifully, preserving the refinement expected of dress shoes while remaining an easy choice for everyday styling.

The sole is built on a leather sole, with black half-rubber applied to the forefoot. While retaining the dignified look characteristic of leather soles, it adds practicality to areas that tend to bear the most strain during walking. At the heel, a Dove heel is used, switching between leather and rubber. It reflects Berwick 1707’s distinctive approach to shoemaking—considering not only beauty, but also wearability in daily life.

The insole is stamped with the Berwick 1707 logo in gold leaf, and the outsole includes engravings alongside a shield-type crest depicting a crown, a castle, and a lion: Berwick 1707, QUALITY SHOES, MADE IN SPAIN, and size 41. The reliable Spanish origin is clearly preserved in the shoe’s fine details. The size is marked as EU41.

The year can be inferred from the outsole’s marking format—Berwick 1707 with the crown and shield-type crest, along with QUALITY SHOES, MADE IN SPAIN, and size 41—which aligns with standard specifications distributed from the 2010s onward.

No indications are found of specific designer names or runway lines; the shoe can be appreciated as classic footwear made by in-house craftsmen and the design team in Almansa, Spain. The inclusion of “1707” in the brand name, tied to the history of the land, adds further value beyond that of ordinary ready-to-wear shoes—allowing you to feel the background of both Spanish shoemaking and the brand itself.

The leather, with depth of tone reminiscent of patina, adds a hint of soft allure to formal styling, and you can enjoy how its expression changes the more it is worn. Rather than being a rigid pair reserved only for suits, it naturally complements jacket styles and everyday tailored looks—recommended for those who seek both refinement and individuality in leather shoes.

For styling, pairing it with a shirt and wool trousers lets the double monk’s structured beauty come through straightforwardly. When incorporated into long-coat or suit set styles, it maintains a classic impression while the varied tones of the buckles and leather act as a tasteful accent, resulting in a sophisticated look suitable for all genders.

This is a Berwick 1707 piece that combines elegance and practicality—something you will want to have in hand if you wish to bring Spanish craftsmanship and classic design into your everyday wardrobe. Please take this opportunity.
