GUCCI
“GUCCI” 2011-12 Bandana panel print shirt
GUCCI's concept is "creating products that reflect the best of the past in the present, with the finest traditions and the finest quality." This time, we will be introducing a piece from the 2011-2012 collection, which was designed by Frida Giannini, that strongly evokes the atmosphere of that time.
This western shirt features a bandana pattern arranged like a scarf, creating a quiet statement and elegance on the chest.
The aesthetics of print work that GUCCI has cultivated extend beyond simply "applying a pattern" to how the center of gravity of the outfit is designed. This shirt features a large panel-like pattern on the front, giving it the shadows and presence of a jacket lapel, even though it is a shirt.
The collar is a neat, regular collar that neatly tucks into the neck, so even if the pattern is extensive, it doesn't look distracting around the face, giving the overall impression a clean, refined look. Furthermore, the front has a layout where the patterns beautifully echo on both sides, so when the buttons are fastened, it looks like there is a "single core running through the center," naturally highlighting the elegant contours.
The silhouette is a "slim" fit seen in men's lines of this era.
As stated on the inner tag, the fit is just right without being overly exaggerated, and while it holds up the power of the pattern, it also creates a balance that allows the fabric to fall lightly when you move. The long sleeves and cuff structure give a neat look to your hands, so even your watch or rings look neat.
The bandana motif is originally a rough and practical motif, but by reconstructing it using the grammar of a long-established Italian fashion house and incorporating it into an everyday piece, it is possible to achieve the wit and elegance that is characteristic of GUCCI. The pattern speaks volumes, but the neatness of the tailoring silences it, and this minimalist design adds value that makes it more than just a printed shirt.
By the way, the internal tag says "Gucci Group Japan Co., Ltd.", which was the name before the change to Kering. It's a small detail, but it's a sure sign of historical accuracy, as it's a product from before 2013.
In terms of styling, simply pairing the shirt with high-quality slacks and minimalist leather shoes will create a perfect look, or tucking it into a long coat or tailored jacket, with just the pattern on the placket showing, will give the outfit a more intelligent look.
