YOHJI YAMAMOTO
"YOHJI YAMAMOTO" 1992SS eyelet cutwork lace design long skirt
We are pleased to present to you a rare and precious archive piece from YOHJI YAMAMOTO, a brand that continues to create clothes for independent women with timeless values, based on the concept of women wearing men's clothing.
This masterpiece is made by carefully switching between several types of lace and layering the transparency of eyelets and cutwork, creating a sense of depth in white and the fluctuation of air at the same time.
The upper part is finished with fine geometric eyelets, and the pattern scale gradually expands from the middle to the bottom, with gaps reminiscent of ladder lace before tightening again at the hem. The shadows flow vertically as you walk, preventing the all-white look from looking monotonous and naturally drawing the eye downwards. The hidden cupra liner on the inside hangs slightly away from the skin, preventing clinging. Combined with the lightweight nylon lace on the outside, this garment promises a cool, comfortable fit even in midsummer. As the "MADE IN JAPAN" engraved on the tag indicates, the stitching is neat, and the precision of the handcrafted work is best appreciated up close.
Spring/Summer 1992 was a time when the brand intentionally moved away from its image of black and translated the vocabulary of white, off-white, lace, and lingerie into fashion, with experiments everywhere being seen into how beautifully the distance between bare skin and fabric could be maintained, and within that context, this skirt could be said to be a key element in "transforming lightness into form." The design, which organically connects lace with different woven patterns within a single garment and achieves a romantic feel through construction rather than relying on decoration, was an added value unique to this season, and even looking at it today, it exudes a fresh sense of tension.
Furthermore, while making extensive use of horizontal seams, the amount of gathering is not excessive, and the ratio of fullness is exquisite, maintaining a drape, and the fine graininess when exposed to light creates a fine shadow, ensuring not only its rarity as an archive piece but also its practicality as a part of your everyday wardrobe.
As for styling, tucking a white shirt lightly into the waist and draping a matching jacket over the shoulders will bring out the structure of the lace. Another idea is to wear a black sheer top underneath and create a straight line with leather boots or minimal heels, which will create a genderless balance and bring out the richness of the white shades.
